Gamers in Real Life Scholarship: How To Wow Our Judges

Have you submitted your application for our 2016 Gamers In Real Life Scholarship Competition yet? If you’ve always wanted to work in the video game industry (and could use $10,000 for educational expenses), this program is right up your alley.

Don’t worry if you haven’t had the chance to apply yet - we’ve got the inside scoop from our scholarship panel judges on how to make your application stand out from the crowd:

Sebastian Strzalkowski“Imagination is a vital skill. Show us your original ideas and creativity whether every detail is masterfully rendered or simply written in crayon.

Draw every day. Draw anything, draw what inspires you, or draw boring stuff – just keep drawing. It’s all about mileage. Show us your strong color sense, contrast, and composition skills.

Your design should tell a story with a single image but leave some mystery for the viewer to wonder. Show us your unique perspective.” – Sebastian Strzalkowski, H1Z1 Art Director

Timothy Heydelaar“Submit artwork that strongly demonstrates an understanding of the game you’re submitting for – do your research! Show us some of the thought process behind your work – variations, thumbs, palettes, notations, core influences, and more.

Most importantly – make it memorable! Don’t just submit a crate – submit a Dwarven kings throne or crazy Gnomish contraption. Want to concept a jungle? Then let’s see your take on a lost Iksar temple within.” – Timothy Heydelaar, EverQuest II Art Director

Bill Yeatts“Your work needs to look impressive and also look like it would fit within the game. Added bonus if you actually play the game!” – Bill Yeatts, PlanetSide 2 Art Director

You can read more and apply for our 2016 Gamers In Real Life Scholarship Competition here – but act fast, because submissions close at 11:59PM PT on Friday, June 3, 2016!
